Our promise is to help children become confident and competent in the water. We believe that kids are capable of learning so much more than how to splash around and blow bubbles. Teaching kids fundamental skills from an early age allows them to grow with their skills. This means your child will never know a day that they did not know how to swim.
Just like our lessons, the Swim Kids report card looks very different from traditional classes. Every child, regardless of age will learn the Survival Skills. Our promise is to continue to teach your child until they are capable of all the skills in the red box. We've taken out all the fluff and only teach what kids need to know in order to survive an aquatic encounter.
Sounds simple? Not always. More than anything, we wish that every child intuitively knew how to hold their breath under water, where the surface is and how to get there, and once they've reached the surface to roll to their back, wait in a stable float, catch their breath, and call for help. Thankfully, there are a few kids that this comes naturally to, but realistically, most kids are not comfortable with the above mentioned skills.
Swim Kids coaches are highly trained professionals that understand how unique each child is. No one teaching style can work with every child. That's why lessons are one-on-one. This allows your coach to adapt and completely individualize every class to your child's specific needs that day. We do everything in our power to set kids up for success
Once kids have mastered the Survival Skills, we begin to work on movement (Swim Skills) and play (Bonus Skills). We understand that a 3yr old may not want to perform a perfect breast stroke, but they are more than capable of moving through the water on their own. We love seeing kids build their knowledge as they learn how the water works, and progress to be strong capable swimmers!
More than anything, we wish that every child intuitively knew how to hold their breath under water, where the surface is and how to get there, and once they've reached the surface to roll to their back, wait in a stable float, catch their breath, and call for help
In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, we gratefully acknowledge that Swim Kids Calgary exists and operates on the lands of the Treaty 7 Peoples in Mohkins’tsis, also known as Calgary. This is the traditional land of the Blackfoot Confederacy which includes the Blackfoot from Siksika, Kainai and Piikani, the Dene from Tsuut’ina, and the Goodstoney, Chiniki and Bearspaw of the Stoney Nakoda Nation. We recognize all First Nation, Metis and Inuit Peoples across Turtle Island as the keepers of these lands.
