Swim Kids Academy Ltd. is searching for an awesome new Swim Coach! No water experience necessary, full training is provided.
Swim Kids is on the cusp of a major growth spurt. Some patience with our growing pains will be required; however, we know that teaching with Swim Kids is the most rewarding job in Calgary. We are passionate about empowering young children to feel confident and capable in the water. Our goal is for children to LEARN to swim and not just mimic the movements of others. We place priority on water safety & competence over technical training (stroke development).
We are currently seeking a positive, joyful individual who is excited about our program and goals. The position requires the ability to constantly calculate and evaluate what is best for each student. Just because it worked for one child, does not mean it will work for the next child. Creative problem solving is critical to success. This position provides real life application for all the psychology and behavioural sciences classes you took in university. Although university education is not required, an understanding of how children think and act is highly beneficial. As a swim coach, you will be required to stand in chlorinated water for long periods of time.
Your primary responsibilities will be two-fold:
1. Successfully guide children through the Swim Kids program(s) as outlined in your training.
2. Write a thoughtful report card for each student at the end of their program.
The Swim Coach position is ideal for someone who values their time outside work. The 4-day work week (Monday-Thursday) provides flexibility to easily schedule appointments or plan long weekend excursions around work hours. It is impossible to describe the rewards gained after helping a child overcome their uncertainties and build a full understanding of water; but we know once you catch the vision, you will be just as addicted as we are!
This part-time position starts on or around January 20th, 2025 with training hours from 9:30am-2:00pm. Training consists of 1.25hrs academic study (9:30am-10:45am) and 3hrs in-water training (11:00am-2:00pm). Full training takes place over 6 weeks. Once training is complete, your consistent shift will be 11:00am-2:00pm Monday-Thursday.
Current teaching location: Service Plus Inns & Suites 3503 114th Ave. SE Calgary.
Hourly wage range $18.00-$33.00/hour
We currently maintain 3 sessions per year: Fall, Winter and Spring.
The Fall session runs September to early December.
The Winter session runs January to March.
The Spring session runs April to June.
The Winter and Spring sessions run back to back.
As of today, there will not be teaching hours in July or August 2025. This is subject to change; however, today, you can plan to teach starting January 20th until the end of June, take July & August off and resume teaching in September.
We appreciate all those who take the time to apply however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
